University of Aberdeen Delegation Visits SCNU Foshan Campus to Advance International Joint Laboratory Cooperation
On September 22, a delegation from the University of Aberdeen, led by Professor Abbie McLaughlin (Research Lead, School of Natural and Computing Sciences) and Dr. Alf Martinez-Felipe (School of Engineering), visited the Foshan Campus of South China Normal University (SCNU) to discuss cooperation on international joint laboratories.
Zeng Biqing, extended a warm welcome to the delegation, noting that the two universities share a long-standing partnership with solid foundations in undergraduate and postgraduate talent cultivation. The jointly established Joint Laboratory for Multimodal Intelligent Robotics has become a key platform for collaborative research.
Zhao Lingzhi introduced the Foshan Campus and stated that SCNU has signed agreements with the University of Aberdeen to establish two joint laboratories, with a third on green energy generation, storage and utilization technologies in progress. He expressed his hope that both sides would further integrate resources, jointly apply for major research grants, and expand joint postgraduate training.
Abbie McLaughlin expressed sincere gratitude for the hospitality, emphasizing her commitment to deepening research cooperation through the joint laboratory platform. Dr. Martinez-Felipe introduced the research strengths of the School of Engineering.
Chen Huan provided an overview of the Foshan Campus’s development as an international education demonstration zone and a hub for Sino-foreign cooperative education. Han Peng introduced the School of Electronic Science and Engineering’s programs and research collaborations, along with the second-phase construction progress of the Joint Laboratory for Intelligent Electromagnetic Regulation. Chai Shaoming updated on the development of the Aberdeen Institute’s Joint Laboratory and the doctoral program. The participants engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as the development of joint laboratory, joint postgraduate training, and research cooperation, reaching broad consensus on the next steps.
