On September 17th, the Aberdeen Institute held the PhD supervisors and students welcome event. Hosted by Professor Aladdin Ayesh (Vice‑Dean of the University of Aberdeen), the event brought together supervisors from SCNU and UoA, as well as the first cohort of PhD students enrolled in the JI PhD programme (single mode).
Professor Biqing Zeng (Dean of the Aberdeen Institute) extended a warm welcome and highlighted the significance of doctoral education. Professor Aladdin Ayesh presented key information regarding the PhD programme, supervisory mechanisms and resources. Professor Shaoming Chai (Vice Dean of the Aberdeen Institute) led the Q&A session. Participants proceeded to breakout sessions for small‑group conversations between supervisors and their assigned doctoral students.
The event facilitated communication between Chinese and UK faculty and students, briefed attendees on the programme overview and training details, laying a solid foundation for students’ upcoming PhD studies and research.
